Zyte (formerly Scrapinghub) Head of Engineering

About the Job:

We are looking for a Head of Engineering to lead our engineering team and help us build great products. You’ll manage our DevOps, Security and our Internal Systems administration teams securely and effectively. To be successful in this role, you should be confident managing teams while, at the same time, setting goals, budgets and timelines for various projects. Ultimately, you’ll make sure we use innovative technologies that maximize our productivity and help our company grow.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Leading the engineering department, from hiring and managing team members to managing tech projects and preparing the budget of the team.


• Overall architecture of our products, ensuring they integrate seamlessly as needed with each other with the infrastructure they run on. Ensuring we adopt modern engineering best practices.


• Infrastructure - ensuring the appropriate storage, compute solutions are available to host and run our products reliably and efficiently in development and production environments.


• Product Operations - ensuring the successful monitoring of Zyte’s products so they run at their expected level of performance. Co-ordinating any response to outages or significant degradation in performance across the organisation so that customer impact is minimised.


• Release Management - ensuring that good quality processes are defined and followed in how we release software. Implementing processes for how software is moved into production that are followed by all product teams.


• Forecasting of infrastructure and 3rd party services and budgetary control about these costs.


• Vendor management for suppliers of infrastructure and 3rd party services including contract negotiation.


• Setting security standards for our product and enduring these are adhered to. Communicating these standards across our wider organisation as needed including as part of sales support cycles.

Requirements

• 8+ years experience as a Head of Engineering or a similar senior-level position in an engineering department


• Extensive experience with cloud technologies and modern human-computer interfaces


• Hands-on experience in DevOps, Security and Systems Administration


• This role is highly collaborative and will require excellent written and verbal communication skills


• You will be results oriented and will work comfortably in a constantly evolving environment.


• You will demonstrate outstanding leadership skills, having an ability to move a cross-functional technical group in a unified direction and with a common vision.


• BSc/MSc in Engineering, Computer Science or relevant field
