About the position:

Wirecutter is seeking a Lead DevOps Engineer to join our Delivery team. In this role, you will report to the Engineering Manager for Product Platforms.

As the Lead DevOps Engineer, you’ll work alongside our rest of Wirecutter to realize our mission of having stable, secure, and performant systems that help our readers enjoy and engage with our content.

You will participate in an on-call rotation which currently consists of 6 other engineers across the organization and you will help us to evolve on-call at Wirecutter. You will also be a member of the Delivery Council whose goal is to help promote a community of DevOps throughout Wirecutter as well as evaluate and prioritize upcoming infrastructure projects. You will also help evolve our observability, site reliability and operational DevOps maturity.

You will be an ideal candidate if you:

Enjoy collaborating with a diverse team of developers across skill-sets, backgrounds and time zones on complex tasks
Have history of working on geographically distributed teams
Foster a culture of observability, enjoy improving monitoring and altering, and have experience with improving incident management
Have significant experience performing design reviews of distributed systems
Served as a cloud subject matter expert and have architected high visibility cloud initiatives in AWS
You are thoughtful, clear, and persuasive in writing and in person
You are excited to play a pivotal role in Wirecutter’s mission, innovation, and growth

Required Skills:

Demonstrated experience in design and maintenance of cloud infrastructure for web applications
Experience with helping organizations to level up their operational maturity and observability, setting up SL*s, etc
Subject matter expertise in at least one of the following domains, including cloud engineering and security, and observability best-practices
Extensive knowledge and experience with primary AWS services (EC2, ELB, RDS, Route53, S3, Lambda)
Experience presenting technical information and plans to wide audience including peers across engineering and senior management
Demonstrated experience working with engineers across disciplines to identify the tradeoffs of different solutions and recommend ideal approach for infrastructure initiatives
