Interview with Wilbert, an ESL teacher that remotely teaches English to kids

Day to day I teach Chinese students how to speak English. Specifically more on kids around 4-10 years old.

Our focus is more on learning new vocabulary and practice in pronunciations. I teach them new keywords that are available in the materials that are provided by the client.

After each lessons, I then documented it on their website and give feedback/review as well as pointers to the students I teach.

Mostly, these days, it's Grow Remote. I'm a lover of documentation, so we are currently building out our Wiki so the community has a reference point and we can help our Chapter Leads have all the tools they need to do what they do.

In my client work, I'm working on a few SEO projects and doing some consultancy. I find I have a nice mix between video meetings for either Grow Remote or my client work and then periods of deeper analytical stuff. It's a balance of what I enjoy!

Interview with Erin, a videographer who found her freelancing niche

I just finished a really fun project with a local business called Usit. It’s an app that connects Atlanta parents with local college student babysitters.

During the film shoot, the parents brought their babies to hold while they were being interviewed. It was definitely the cutest film shoot I’ve ever had.

I’m also making an introduction video for a local nonprofit called Gigi Inc., an organization dedicated to empowering girls. It has been encouraging to hear about their work and help them get the word out.

As far as what I’m working on in my business, I’m in the process of making a new service to help small businesses easily create consistent video content. I’ve seen so many small businesses that want videos but don’t have the time or budget. It’s been in the works for a while, and now I’m finally able to start offering it.

Interview with Mary, a remote senior marketing content writer who maximizes downtime

I'm the senior marketing content writer for a sales software company. So my job entails talking to our sales reps and our customers to learn what our customer pain points are and then translating that into website copy, blog posts, eBooks, social media posts, case studies, PPC ad copy, and flyers for our tradeshows.

Since I'm a one-person marketing writing team, I wear quite a few hats, but that keeps me busy.

And working from home gives me plenty of time to have heads-down writing time without distractions from people stopping by my cube at the office.

With the help of a Franklin Covey Notebook & a few rounds of Candy Crush—Mary shows how important downtime is to remote work. See how she maximizes her time and puts work-life balance first.
